Best Collegiate Football Team of All-Time

First off, this thread is for informed football discussion, not a case of the "You disagree with me, and didn't name my favorite team, so I'm going to make a post just to say you know nothing about college football". This is my opinion. If you dont like, I dont care. Just wanted to see some different opinions out there.

    My nomination:

    The 2001 Miami Hurricanes

    Offensive Notable Starters:
    Ken Dorsey
    Najeh Davenport
    Clinton Portis
    Jeremy Shockey
    Andre Johnson
    Bryant McKinnie
    Brett Romberg

    Defensive Notable Starters:
    Jerome McDougal
    William Joseph
    DJ Williams
    Jonathan Vilma
    Mike Rumph
    Ed Reed
    Phillip Buchanon

    Reserves:

    Frank Gore
    Willis McGahee
    Antrel Rolle
    Sean Taylor
    Leon Williams
    Rocky McIntosh
    Vernon Carey
    Vince Wilfork
    Kellen Winslow Jr
    Roscoe Parrish
    Kevin Everett
    Orien Harris

I must say, that is going to right near the top if it isn't.

1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Tommy Frazier and Lawrence Phillips ran over everybody.

Re: Best Collegiate Football Team of All-Time

Not a team I ever seen...but '61 Bama was 11-0 and outscored opponents an average of 27-3....only gave up 25 points on the year. To me, that would have to qualify as the best.

If that's a standard you're judging by, I'd take the 39 UT team. They didn't allow a point the whole regular season. They gave up 14 in their bowl game.

Re: Best Collegiate Football Team of All-Time

That Bama team gave up 25 including their Bowl game...plus, by that time football was in the modern era...IMO, it's tough to beat that. Here's their schedule and results:

    Bama 32 at Georgia 6
    Bama 9 Tulane 0
    Bama 35 at Vanderbilt 6
    Bama 26 North Carolina St.
    Bama 34 Tennessee 3*
    Bama 17 at Houston (TX)0
    Bama 24 Mississippi St. 0
    Bama 66 Richmond 0
    Bama 10 Georgia Tech 0*
    Bama 34 Auburn 0*
Bama 10 Arkansas 3 (Sugar Bowl)

    8= Played in Birmingham

    Season Totals

    Bama 297 Opponent 25

...And if you ain't down with that, I got 2 words for ya....

Re: Best Collegiate Football Team of All-Time

I'd take giving up 14 for a season over that. Modern era or not, it wasn't like the UT team was a modern team facing one from the stone ages. It was still on even playing levels.
